Sister, Sister

My circle of friends has always been small- not to say that's a good or bad thing, just how it's been. When I first found out I was going to be moving up to Alaska there were so many things I was worried about, one of which was what I would do in a new place with no friends.

One day as I was scrolling through Instagram I stumbled upon a photo of Louisa, where she tagged Fairbanks, Alaska as where the photo was taken. Seeming too good to be true, I still asked if she lived there. Over a year later and I am so happy to say that what started out as small talk over Instagram has turned into real life friendship.

My African sister, Game of Thrones watching partner, blogging mentor- couldn't have been blessed with abetter friend up here! Make sure you check out more of her amazing style at La Passion Voûtée.

Casual Friday + Giveaway!

Happy Friday lovelies! It's been a little while since I've had any new looks; so I'm excited to have new outfits and a giveaway to tell you about!

When I first moved to Alaska it was hard getting used to how casual the people are. With the cold temperatures and slick sidewalks I had to adjust my wardrobe for some time, but spring has almost sprung- so let the blogging begin again. My style has progressively become more simple, but I'm not mad about it. Don't get me wrong I still have dressy days, but with the amount of snow still on the ground and cold it's better to be warm and comfortable.

I paired this simple cold shoulder top with my favorite new pair of Dr.Martens. These shoes are not only fashionable but also functional with the amazing traction they have. For the days I really don't want to put any thought into my look I go for a long sweater- this one from AmiClubwear. This was my first time shopping at this online shop and I was so pleasantly surprised with the quality. Unlike some shops, every item looked the same on as it did on the website.

I recently got to work with Jord Watches and styled both of these casual Friday looks with it. Where to start; from the beautiful packaging to the timepiece itself, everything about Jord is simple, classy, and chic. I chose from their wood collection as this is something I haven't seen much of in watch styles, and I am in love. Now you guys have a chance to enter a giveaway that they're hosting! Everyone who enters will get a $25 code and one lucky winner will receive a $100 gift card. The giveaway closes in just one week so make sure to go enter now.

May the odds ever be in your favor.

Recycled Fashion

Hello from Alaska! Keeping my blog up and running has been tough in -20 weather but as always, I’m thankful for all of the creatives I have met up here. I'm very excited to share my collaboration with two new people.

Since I've started modeling, over half of the people I have worked with have been found on Instagram- how you might ask; I look up various hahstags that relate to my location. I came across photographer Kimberly, and a local boutique- Bad Mother Vintage through #fairbanksphotographer.

Clothing—not fashion—is such an over-looked reflection of popular culture, but people think about it less and less.

I stopped by Bad Mother Vintage and picked up a few pieces which you can see styled here. The thing I love about this boutique besides their great selection of clothing is the fact that all of their clothes are vintage. All of their pieces are handpicked, most of which are imported from Manchester. Fun fact- the two ladies who own Bad Mother select their pieces not only for the style, but also for the conditions under which the clothes were made. They make a conscious effort to abstain from supporting companies that use the ‘sweatshop’ style of labor, which is something that I can definitely appreciate.

Fairbanks loves second-hand anything—I’m not sure why, but it’s in the water. When the space opened up on Second Avenue, it was just a leap we took—why not? If we go out of business in a few months, we can just claim we were a really successful pop-up shop!~

The photographer was one of the sweetest women I have worked with. Don't let the smile on my face or nonchalant expression fool you because I did freeze my butt off the entire time, but I had so much fun doing it. It was 12 degrees that day but all the laughs and feelings of happiness from being creative made the entire shoot worth it. Check out more of her work here:

Until next time lovelies!

Boots with the Fur

It has been a wild few months, just when I think I'm used to this new lifestyle in Alaska I find myself feeling homesick. It has been a struggle trying to find photographers to work with to keep my blog up and running. I've had two shoots in four months which is unlikely for me; so I decided to try my boyfriend out as my photographer a second chance.

The short days and cold temperatures have made keeping my blog up and running challenging; but thank goodness for visits home. Christmas is right around the corner and I can't wait to share all the fun adventures I will have while back home in Seattle for the holidays.

Happy Holidays!

Winter Fashion

Hello lovelies! Another week in Fairbanks, and it only continues to get colder and darker. The temperatures usually get no higher than 20 degrees and the sun shines between 9:30am and 3:30 pm; this makes blogging a little tougher, but still doable! I spent this week bringing out all my favorite fur items to get me through my first winter in Alaska.

Quick shout out to Mama Long (boyfriend's mom) for gifting me with this stylish and functional fur piece.

I never in a million years thought I would say this, but it can be so easy to let style go out the window when you have to walk around outside in 20 below. It’s all fun and games until your fashionable clothes leave you wishing you had dressed a little warmer for the weather. Lucky for me, I now have my hands on a beautiful fur coat that will not only keep me warm but also keep me looking good all winter!

Keep it stylish, stay warm.
